What is a visa?

Visa is an authorization issued by the representative of the Government of a country permitting a person, not resident in that country, to enter its boundaries.

Who issues visas for Russia in Australia?

In Australia the Embassy of the Russian Federation in Canberra and the Consulate General of the Russian Federation in Sydney are representatives of the Russian Federation, who issue visas for Russia.

Do the Russian Visa Centers have anything to do with the actual visa decision?

No.
Our job is purely administrative in nature and we cannot influence or expedite any decision.

How do I know if I need a visa?

Australian citizens need a visa to travel to Russia.

Is the visa valid for Russia only?

Russian visas are valid for Russia only.

Will I get my visa at the end of the process?

The Russian Visa Center will not be able to guarantee you a visa. The issuance or refusal of a visa is the sole prerogative of the respected diplomatic mission.

The Russian Visa Center cannot influence this decision in any way.

If I have received visas in the past, do I have to submit a full set of documents when applying for a new visa?

Yes.
You require new application for Russian visa and all supporting documents.

If I have a Russian visa which is valid at the time I am submitting a new application, can I have 2 visas at the same time?

No.
Please be aware, that in case you have recently been granted a Russian visa which is valid, you can not apply for a new visa.

What are the opening hours of Russian Visa Centers?

Russian Visa Centers are closed on Saturdays, Sundays and Australian public holidays.

Do I need to have an appointment to submit my application?

We accept documents at the Russian Visa Center by appointments. If you were late or were unable to book an appointment in advance, your documents will be accepted on a first come, first served basis.

Do I need to come in person to submit or collect my passport (documents)?

You can submit and collect your documents in person, through an authorized representative by a proxy or via Postal Service (additional service fee).

When can I apply for my visa?

6-8 months before your planned arrival date to Russian Federation.

What are the processing times?

From the date your documents are lodged at the Embassy or Consulate: 10-12 working days for standard service or 4-6 working days for urgent service.

In order to avoid any delay or inconvenience, kindly ensure that all of your documents are complete at the time of submission of your application.

In some cases your passport can be retained by Embassy or Consulate for 30 days for consideration and processing.

What happens once I get to the visa center? How do things work?

For all visa lodgments you will be called for submission according to your appointment bookings.

Once you arrive at the visa center you will be asked to introduce yourself. You would then be required to wait in the applicant area until your appointment time or until one of the consultants is free.

While you wait to be called – please ensure that all supporting documents are ready. Incorrect documentation or photo will cause a delay in acceptance of your application.

At the counter, the consultant will check your documents, process your application and issue you with invoice. Information about the approximate time of visa readiness will be given to you but we will not be able to provide you the exact date. We recommend you use our SMS service (additional service fee) to be notified upon your passport is returned to the Russian Visa Center.

Where are the fees and checklists for the visa categories?

Under the heading "Visa Category", a complete list of each visa category is provided. Within each category, once selected, you will see multiple tabs under the main heading providing details of Visa Fees, Documents Required, Processing Time, Photo Specifications. Please review these details carefully before completing your application.

Do I need to submit originals of any documents when applying for a visa to Russia?

The applicant must submit the following documents in originals: passport, printed and signed visa application form with photo.

Other documents are accepted in certified copies, except for the cases when the originals may be requested by the Embassy or Consulate.

How do I know which type of passport do I choose on the application form- Diplomatic, Official or Tourist

A diplomatic passport is issued to someone who travels internationally on official state business.

Official passport (service passport, also special passport) is issued to government employees for work-related travel, and to accompanying dependents.

A tourist or ordinary passport is a document, issued by a national government for the purpose of private international travel, which certifies the identity and nationality of its holder.

Can I make a payment online?

If you use our Postal Service (additional service fee) you will receive an email with an invoice to be paid soon after your application is received by our Russian Visa Center.

When you come to submit your documents in person you will make a payment at the Russian Visa Center.

What fees will I need to pay?

According to your visa category the nominated Consular fee will be applied. Additional service fee of $43 inclusive of GST will be added to your invoice. All fees should be paid at the time of submission at the Russian Visa Center.

All postal applications will be issued an invoice and sent to your nominated e-mail. Payments for postal applications are due within 3 days of invoice date by bank transfer to the nominated bank account on your invoice.

We do not accept CASH, MONEY ORDERS OR CHEQUES.

Where can I get the correct specifications of photographs?

Please see Photo Specifications section on our website. We do provide photo service on site (additional service fee).

Can I confirm all my travel bookings before getting the visa?

No bookings or travel arrangements should be confirmed until a visa decision has been made unless it is a requirement for your visa application.

Interlink Service Australia Pty Ltd will not be responsible for any loss of expenses caused by delay/refusal of the visa.

I have created an electronic form of visa application. How do I know if it has been saved?

Before completing your online application form you need to register on the website https://visa.kdmid.ru/.

Please note down your user name and password generated by the system. If you will need to return to your saved application form, you will need to use your log in, saved details: password and visa application number.

Can I use my digital signature on the application form?

No.
You cannot use your digital signature for the application form. The application form needs to be signed using a pen.

If I have filled out an application form for a minor – who has to sign the application?

Applications for minors (under the age of 16) must be signed for by the parent or guardian otherwise they cannot be accepted.

Can I edit the online application form once it is printed?

Yes.

Please note that you will need to enter first 5 letters of your surname in CAPITAL letters. After you have entered all the required information please click on “Get a new draft ID” and then click “Next” on the following page. Kindly note that by selecting “Get a new draft ID” you will not delete the application form you have already created and it will be available for amendments/correction.

How do I retrieve the form if I have not completed it?

How can I collect my passport?

Once your passport is ready you can collect it at the Russian Visa Center.

Alternatively order a Postal or Courier delivery (courier fees according to your location).

Passport Collection Procedure

Due to security measures, no passports will be returned for collection without appropriate personal identification.

The following procedure for passport collection from Russian Visa Centers in Australia must be strictly observed.

  1. Appropriate identification document with your photograph and signature must be presented.
  2. If you wish for your passport to be collected by authorized representative on your behalf, please provide the letter of authorization stating the details of your representative. Appropriate ID of a representative must be presented.
